Jazz Fest
Overview
The Detroit Jazz Festival is the world's largest admission-free jazz festival, which this screenprinted poster promotes for the 2026 event. To bring this to life, we designed this in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and sold these posters at the Student Exhibition at the end of the CCS School year.

GOALS
We explored the screenprinting process and get hands on with real ink when printing creative processes, to understand the limitations of real ink printing and not design whatever we wanted to live on just a screen. The poster is for jazz fans and Detroiters to promote the 2026 Jazz Festival.

PROCESS
Throughout the process, we studied all over Michigan regions, being the U.P., “Up North,” Mid Michigan, Tourist Side, and Metro Detroit. Through studying these regions, we came up with topics that speak to each region of Michigan, like Music for Detroit or Nature for the UP. We narrowed down our direction to Metro Detroit and the Southwest/Tourist side, exploring themes like Automotive or the Tulip festival. Ultimately since we knew we were going to sell our posters, we wanted to speak to as many of the people in attendance as possible, thus choosing to explore Metro Detroit’s music scene. To differentiate this project from our Movement billboard, we went into the blues of Jazz.

conclusion
The final poster was made with Paper Screenprint Ink from Blick and screenprinted with the help of Joe Benghauser from Detroit Wood Type Co. They specialize in unique printing methods and branding, where we all manually mixed inks and applied them to burned screenprint sheets to get our final product. They successfully sold at the CCS Student Exhibition and accomplished our goal of speaking to as many local Detroiters and Michiganders as possible.
